Posted by
Mike Hall (California, United States) on 29 January 2011 in Landscape & Rural and Portfolio.

An isolated view of an old pier on a recent winter shoot up the coast.

Thanks for visiting my photoblog. Though I may not be able to respond to every comment, I do read them all and I appreciate your interest.

@sunstone_maria: Thank you Maria...As you know, it's interesting how the mood of the location changes with the light.

DarkElf from Perth, Australia

wonderfully spotted and captured! excellent composition and great long exposure effect!

30 Jan 2011 8:19am

@DarkElf: Thanks DarkElf...This is one of the reasons to stick around a bit after the sun has set.

Julie Brown from Indianapolis, United States

A very powerful composition, with few but strong elements. I really like the high perspective.

30 Jan 2011 12:17pm

@Julie Brown: Thank you Julie...As you know, sometimes "simple" is the best. Access to the beach is possible but a little risky...Since I was by myself shooting from above was the best option.

Tracy from La Selva Beach, United States

This is really a wonderful shot Mike! I love the one you posted on FB, too- but this one really conveys the way the ocean and time have taken it's toll on this old pier- Wonderful story you've created by isolating the one section and letting the water blur.

30 Jan 2011 2:31pm

@Tracy: Tracy...As I mentioned above, "simple" compositions can be very powerful...As you noticed, same location, different look/feel. Hope you had a great weekend.

Denny Jump Photo from Easton, PA, United States

This is fantastic, Mike. There is an elusive affect here, too...I can see a shot of a large building from 20,000 feet here as well...VERY well done sir, from top to bottom!

30 Jan 2011 7:58pm

@Denny Jump Photo: Thanks Denny...One of the fun things about these types of shots is they can be a bit abstract.

steve loos from hollister, United States

Mike; great decision to crop (?) this image. Great, beautiful affect! Looks like a mystical scene from Star Wars!

31 Jan 2011 4:36am

@steve loos: Steve...Not a heavy crop...There was a bit of the water line I didn't like on the left edge.

SOUL AFLAME from The bosom of nature Canada &, United Kingdom

A fabulous aerial view and portrait format which really show off the details so perfectly.

Gary Hart from California, United States

I've gotta say Mike, this image is without pier.

31 Jan 2011 11:06pm

@Gary Hart: "...sound of cymbals crashing..." Gary I'll start worrying when I hear your act is avaliable for children's partys...Thanks.
